This ceremonial fan stand measures 27 inches tall including the pole and is made of hardwood with mother-of-pearl inlay. It holds a talapatr fan, the ceremonial fan used by Thai and Lao monks during sermons and processions.
In Thai and Lao Buddhist practice the talapatr is carried by senior monks as a sign of rank and is placed on a stand when not in use. The mother-of-pearl work is done by village artisans who cut and set the shells by hand.
Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Keep away from moisture so the inlay stays bright.
