Aquarium Considerations
Yellow Pigeon Blood Discus thrive in warm, stable, exceptionally clean water. Strong biological filtration, regular water changes, and careful monitoring of water parameters are essential.
These social fish generally do best in groups of five or more, provided the aquarium is large enough to accommodate them comfortably. Keeping too few can increase stress or allow dominant individuals to intimidate weaker fish.
Create a calm environment with open swimming space, subdued areas for shelter, and decorations without sharp edges. Avoid aggressive, overly energetic, or fin-nipping tankmates.
Discus can be sensitive to sudden environmental changes, so gradual acclimation and consistent husbandry are particularly important. When introducing new fish, a separate quarantine aquarium is strongly recommended.
Feeding
Offer a varied, nutritionally balanced diet formulated for discus. High-quality prepared foods can be supplemented with suitable frozen foods such as brine shrimp and mysis shrimp.
Feed modest portions and remove uneaten food promptly to maintain water quality.
