Meet Trevanian, the Trev's Dracula Venus Flytrap.

Trevanian is polished, theatrical, and just a little intimidating in the best way. He enjoys bright light, high standards, and making a memorable impression on anything careless enough to wander too close. Elegant but not delicate, he is the sort of companion who prefers admiration from a respectful distance.

With dramatic traps and a taste for the unconventional, Trevanian brings a darker sort of charm to your collection. He is patient, observant, and never in a rush. Much to Medusina’s amusement, he considers himself the more refined predator of the two.

His perfect match? Someone attentive, a little curious, and willing to follow instructions. He does not appreciate guesswork, poor lighting, or a casual splash of tap water.

• Botanical Name: Dionaea muscipula
• Common Name(s): Venus flytrap, Trev's Dracula Venus Flytrap
• Description: The Venus flytrap is one of the most iconic carnivorous plants, prized for its hinged traps and remarkable insect-catching ability. Trev's Dracula is an especially striking variety with dramatic coloration and a bold, expressive look that makes it a natural standout in any collection. Like other Venus flytraps, it thrives with strong light, pure water, and seasonal dormancy.

• Care difficulty: 5/10 • Best for growers who can follow a specific routine
Light: Give him very bright light or full sun. A sunny windowsill, strong grow light, or outdoor sun is best.
Water: Keep the soil consistently moist using only distilled water, rainwater, or reverse osmosis water. Do not use tap water.
Humidity: Average to moderate humidity is usually fine, though he appreciates good airflow and consistent conditions.
Soil: Use a carnivorous plant mix such as sphagnum moss or peat-based media with perlite. Do not use regular potting soil.
Feeding: If kept outdoors, he can usually feed himself. Indoors, he may occasionally catch a small insect on his own. Do not overfeed and do not trigger traps for fun.
Dormancy: He needs a winter dormancy period each year. Slower growth and trap dieback during dormancy are normal.
Temperature: Prefers warm growing conditions during the active season and cooler temperatures during winter dormancy.
Pet Safety: Generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, though it is still best to discourage chewing or rough handling.

He is captivating, but not carefree. Poor water quality, weak light, and constant fussing are his main complaints.

You will receive a live Trev’s Dracula Venus Flytrap in the size and shipping form specified in your selected option. Each Trevanian grows a little differently, so trap size, coloration, leaf count, and overall appearance may naturally vary. Listing photos show representative plants.

Depending on current growth stage and season, the plant may arrive looking different from mature listing photos. Minor cosmetic blemishes, trap dieback, or temporary shipping stress may occur. Unpack promptly and place in bright light with appropriate moisture as soon as possible.

Venus flytraps require specific care and naturally enter a winter dormancy period. Slower growth, smaller traps, or seasonal dieback can be completely normal.

If Trevanian arrives with significant damage or a condition concern, contact hello@ilexatelier.com within 24 hours of delivery. Include your order number and clear photos of the entire plant, affected areas, shipping box, and shipping label. Keep the plant and packaging while we review your concern.

Venus flytraps have inner walls that are covered in nectar to attract insects. The trap has trichomes in the middle, which trigger its closing mechanism. For this mechanism to work, the insect has to touch one trichome multiple times or two different spikes within a few seconds in order to close the trap. The edges of the plant have cilia (hair like), which interlock when the trap closes, making it difficult or impossible for the prey to escape. Once the trap is close, the enzymes will break and digest the prey, leaving only the exoskeleton of its victim. This process can take up to ten days.

Please note that some plants are greener than others and that Venus flytraps are dormant during winter (Oct-Feb/Mar). So, if we ship during this time, they will be smaller but will come back stronger and bigger in spring/summer.

Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) 'Trev's Dracula' is an awesome vft that have serrated teeth and its traps become red when exposed to strong lights.
