Teran | Star Jasmine
Meet Teran, the sort of lady who can turn a quiet garden gathering into an evening nobody wants to end. She has a natural gift for making herself at home wherever she goes, and before long, everyone else feels at home too.
Her glossy evergreen leaves give her an effortlessly polished appearance, but it’s her delicate white, star-shaped flowers that make her unforgettable. When the weather warms, Teran fills the air with a sweet, rich fragrance that has a habit of drifting well beyond her own garden.
She’s affectionate, outgoing, and not particularly interested in keeping to herself. Give her a trellis, a fence, or a sunny garden wall, and she’ll happily make the acquaintance of every available inch. She has been known to cross a boundary or two, although she insists she’s simply being neighborly.
For all her enthusiasm, Teran is surprisingly independent. She enjoys plenty of sunshine, appreciates well-drained soil, and prefers a sensible watering routine over constant attention. Once her roots are established, she’s quite capable of looking after herself through an occasional dry spell. A little pruning keeps her ambitions in check, especially if she’s begun making herself comfortable somewhere she wasn’t invited.
Teran is best suited to someone who appreciates a fragrant garden, enjoys a little company, and doesn’t mind a guest who occasionally overstays her welcome.
“I wasn’t eavesdropping, petal. The breeze brought the conversation to me.”
Care Level: 3/10 | A Social Butterfly with Boundaries
Our scale: 1 = easiest, 10 = most demanding.
Light: Full sun to partial shade. Teran appreciates plenty of sunshine, particularly when it’s time to show off her fragrant white flowers. She can tolerate some shade, although flowering may be less abundant.
Water: Water regularly while she’s establishing her roots, allowing the upper soil to dry slightly between waterings. Once established, she’s more tolerant of occasional dry spells. Avoid leaving her roots in soggy soil.
Soil: Fertile, well-draining soil. If grown in a container, provide drainage holes and a suitable support for climbing.
Humidity: Comfortable with ordinary outdoor humidity in suitable growing climates. No special humidity treatment is generally necessary.
Temperature: Best suited to USDA Hardiness Zones 8–10. Established plants can tolerate brief periods of cold, but severe freezes may damage the foliage and stems. Protect container-grown plants during freezing weather.
Growth: An evergreen, twining climbing vine capable of reaching approximately 10–20 feet or more with suitable support. Prune after flowering to maintain her shape and discourage uninvited excursions into neighboring territory.
Flowering: Clusters of small, white, star-shaped flowers with a distinctly sweet fragrance. Blooms are generally most abundant in late spring and early summer, depending on the climate.
Teran’s Golden Rule: Give her sunshine, something to climb, and enough freedom to flourish. Just remember that even the most charming guests occasionally need boundaries.
