Queen Cordyline | Calypso Queen
Meet Queen Cordyline, the Calypso Queen.
Some queens inherit their thrones. Others marry into royalty. Cordyline simply arrived, declared herself fabulous, and waited for everyone else to catch up.
With sweeping burgundy leaves, flashes of electric pink, and an unmistakable flair for the dramatic, Her Majesty has never believed in blending into the background. She considers subtlety a dreadful waste of perfectly good attention.
Her court is a lively affair, filled with music, gossip, extravagant celebrations, and a rather questionable number of admirers. Cordyline believes a kingdom should be enjoyed, not merely ruled, and has been known to declare an impromptu holiday simply because the weather was particularly lovely.
Naturally, Queen Regina considers her an embarrassment to the crown.
The two monarchs have maintained a bitter rivalry for years, although the precise cause remains a matter of considerable debate. Regina insists Cordyline violated royal etiquette during a formal banquet. Cordyline maintains that she merely suggested Regina loosen up a little.
Regina threatened to have her beheaded.
Cordyline asked whether the execution could be scheduled after cocktails.
Since then, their diplomatic relations have remained delightfully strained.
Unlike her notoriously particular neighbor, Cordyline enjoys the spotlight. She thrives in bright, indirect light, appreciates warmth, and prefers her soil to dry slightly between drinks. She is quite capable of tolerating a little independence, provided nobody mistakes it for permission to ignore her entirely.
And while Regina spends her afternoons worrying over her darling Lucien, Cordyline has occasionally suggested that the poor boy might benefit from an extended holiday at her palace.
After all, her own daughter, Princess Philomena, is a lovely young lady of impeccable breeding, exquisite taste, and a rather inconvenient tendency to make up her own mind.
Cordyline has mentioned, entirely innocently of course, that the two young royals might enjoy one another’s company.
Regina has forbidden Lucien from visiting.
Cordyline has already prepared the guest room.
And, rather suspiciously, ordered fresh flowers for Philomena’s chambers.
When questioned about her sudden enthusiasm for matchmaking, Her Majesty insists she wants nothing more than her daughter’s happiness.
The possibility of Queen Regina becoming her daughter’s mother-in-law has absolutely nothing to do with it.
Although Cordyline has been laughing about something for three days straight.
Her perfect match? Someone with a flair for the dramatic, an appreciation for bold color, and a home where a little scandal is considered excellent entertainment.
After all, life is far too short to spend it obeying someone else’s royal decrees.
Especially Regina’s.

A Note from Her Majesty: Cordyline’s colorful foliage may become less vibrant in insufficient light. Brown leaf tips can develop from dry air, inconsistent watering, or sensitivity to minerals and fluoride in tap water. Filtered or rainwater may help sensitive plants maintain their appearance.
She enjoys attention, but even a queen needs a little breathing room.
