Lucien | Alocasia Scalprum
Meet Lucien, the Alocasia Scalprum.
Lucien is a grown man. An independent thinker. A gentleman of refined tastes, considerable ambition, and one very unfortunate problem. His mother.
Queen Regina has spent his entire life keeping him tucked safely beneath her enormous, heart-shaped leaves. She calls it maternal devotion. Lucien calls it a hostage situation.
With his narrow, blade-like foliage and distinctly serious appearance, Lucien considers himself perfectly capable of navigating the world without constant supervision. Unfortunately, Her Majesty still insists on checking whether he’s getting enough sunlight, drinking enough water, and associating with respectable houseplants.
He’s tried reasoning with her. He’s tried setting boundaries. He once moved three inches farther down the windowsill, which resulted in a family emergency.
Lucien dreams of a sophisticated apartment, intelligent conversation, and a life where nobody introduces him as her precious little seedling.
His perfect match? Someone who respects his independence, appreciates his sharp sense of style, and understands that if an imposing woman named Regina arrives asking questions, he is absolutely not home.
- Botanical Name: Alocasia scalprum
- Common Name(s): Alocasia Scalprum, Samar Lance
- Description: Native to the Philippines, Alocasia Scalprum is a distinctive tropical aroid prized for its elongated, narrow leaves with textured surfaces and a deep green coloration. Its blade-like foliage and upright growth habit give it a dramatic, architectural appearance.
- Care Difficulty: 7/10 • Moderate to challenging. Best suited to someone comfortable maintaining consistent tropical growing conditions.
- Light: Bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh direct sunlight.
- Water: Water when the upper inch of soil begins to dry. Keep the soil lightly moist during active growth without allowing it to become waterlogged.
- Humidity: Prefers high humidity, ideally around 60% or higher.
- Temperature: Prefers 65–85°F. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below approximately 60°F.
- Soil: A chunky, well-draining aroid mix that retains some moisture while allowing good airflow around the roots.
- Pets: Toxic to cats and dogs if chewed or ingested due to insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. Keep away from curious pets and children.
Lucien may insist that he requires absolutely no supervision, but inconsistent watering, dry air, and sudden temperature changes can quickly upset him. He thrives with steady attention, although he’d prefer you didn’t mention that to his mother.

Plant Disclosure
You will receive a live Alocasia Scalprum in the pot size selected. Each Lucien grows a little differently, so height, leaf count, fullness, and coloration naturally vary.
Styled images show decorative settings and may depict a more mature plant. A decorative planter is included only when expressly specified in your selected option. Other props and accessories are not included.
Minor cosmetic blemishes, leaf loss, or shipping stress may occur. Alocasias can be sensitive to environmental changes, and older leaves may occasionally yellow as the plant adjusts. Unpack promptly, place in appropriate indirect light, and check the soil before watering. Allow excess water to drain.
If Lucien arrives with significant damage or a condition concern, contact hello@thelovefern.com within 24 hours of delivery. Include your order number and clear photos of the entire plant, affected areas, shipping box, and shipping label. Keep the plant and packaging while we review your concern.
