Sylvie | Satin Pothos
Meet Sylvie, the Satin Pothos.
Sylvie has excellent taste and a very relaxed approach to showing it off. With silver-splashed leaves and vines that drape gracefully over the edge of a shelf, she makes lounging look like an art form.
She prefers a warm room, flattering indirect light, and a little attention when she needs it. Harsh sun is dreadful lighting. Cold drafts are unacceptable. And leaving her roots sitting in water? Surely you know better.
Give her somewhere to trail or something to climb, and she’ll gradually make herself part of the decor. She’s easy company, although she may curl her leaves when she’s thirsty. Sylvie believes a subtle gesture should be enough to get your attention.
She doesn’t need the spotlight. Just a lovely place beside it.
“Darling, this isn’t glitter. It’s natural.”
- Botanical Name: Scindapsus pictus 'Argyraeus'
- Common Name(s): Pothos, Satin, Pothos Pictus, Silver Vine
- Description: This striking tropical plant is fairly new to house plant nurseries, and is garnering a lot of attention. Big, heart-shaped leaves are dark-green and splashed with silvery gray, giving them a satin sheen. Its compact growth habit makes Scindapsus pictus 'Argyraeus' a beautiful hanging basket plant. You'll see the best leaf color and variegation by keeping it in bright, indirect light. You'll also keep the plant healthy by boosting the humidity around it. In fact, its variegated foliage makes Satin Pothos a beautiful addition to a terrarium.
Care Level: 3/10 — Easy with a basic routine
Light: Bright, indirect light keeps her looking her best. Avoid harsh direct sunlight.
Water: Let the top 1–2 inches of soil dry before watering thoroughly. Allow excess water to drain, and never leave her sitting in water.
Humidity: Average household humidity usually works. She appreciates higher humidity if your home is particularly dry.
Temperature: Keep her warm and away from cold drafts and air-conditioning vents.
Growth: Let her vines trail from a shelf or hanging basket, or provide a support for climbing.
Pet safety: Toxic to cats and dogs. Keep her leaves and trailing vines out of reach.
