Meet Finn, the Fish Hooks Succulent.

Finn is easygoing, a little unconventional, and perfectly happy hanging around.

His long trailing stems spill over the edge of his pot in a tangle of curved blue-green leaves that really do resemble tiny fish hooks. He has no interest in standing upright just because everyone else does. Give him a shelf, hanging planter, or high perch and he will happily take the scenic route downward.

Finn likes plenty of bright light and prefers his relationships on the dry side. Let his soil dry well between drinks, then water thoroughly and leave him alone again. He is drought tolerant, forgiving, and much more likely to complain about too much attention than too little.

With enough light, his growth stays compact and full. In dim conditions, he may begin stretching in search of something better. He is not particularly demanding, but he does appreciate being given enough space to trail without constantly being rearranged.

His perfect match? Someone relaxed, independent, and comfortable letting things unfold naturally.

“Hang around. Just don’t drown me.”

• Botanical Name: Senecio radicans, also classified as Curio radicans

• Common Name(s): Fish Hooks Succulent, String of Fish Hooks, String of Bananas

• Description: Fish Hooks is a trailing succulent known for its slender stems and curved, fleshy leaves. Its cascading growth makes it especially well suited to hanging baskets, shelves, and elevated planters where the stems can spill freely. The succulent leaves store water, helping the plant tolerate periods of dryness once established.

• Care difficulty: 2/10 • Relaxed and drought tolerant

Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Some gentle direct sunlight can encourage fuller growth, but acclimate gradually to stronger sun.

Water: Allow the soil to dry thoroughly between waterings. Water deeply, then let excess moisture drain completely. Water less frequently during cooler months.

Soil: Use a fast-draining cactus or succulent potting mix. Good drainage is essential to help prevent root rot.

Temperature: Prefers warm indoor temperatures. Protect from frost and prolonged cold.

Humidity: Normal household humidity is fine. No misting is needed.

Feeding: Feed lightly during active growth with a diluted cactus or succulent fertilizer according to label directions.

Maintenance: Trim overly long or sparse stems if needed to encourage a fuller shape. Cuttings can also be propagated to create new plants.

Pet Safety: Toxic if ingested. Keep away from cats, dogs, and children.

Finn is easy to keep happy, but soggy soil is his biggest weakness. When in doubt, wait a little longer before watering.

Plant Disclosure

You will receive a live Fish Hooks Succulent in the pot size selected. Each Finn grows a little differently, so stem length, fullness, leaf spacing, trailing pattern, and overall appearance naturally vary. Listing photos show representative plants. A decorative planter is included only when specified in the selected option.

Minor cosmetic blemishes, detached leaves, shortened stems, or temporary shipping stress may occur. Unpack promptly, place in bright light, and check the soil before watering. Allow the soil to dry thoroughly between waterings and never leave the roots sitting in standing water.

If Finn arrives with significant damage or a condition concern, contact hello@ilexatelier.com within 24 hours of delivery. Include your order number and clear photos of the entire plant, affected areas, shipping box, and shipping label. Keep the plant and packaging while we review your concern.
